SEO for Plumbers
Plumbing is the most emergency-driven trade I work with. A burst pipe, a backed-up main or no hot water on a Sunday morning turns into a search, three taps and a phone call, usually within a few minutes. Whoever is visible in that moment gets the job. I build your local SEO so that’s you, and so the planned work, water heaters, repipes and drain jobs, keeps coming in between emergencies.

How plumbing customers search
The emergency, right now
“Emergency plumber” · “burst pipe” · “sewer backup” · “no hot water”
Google answers with a map and a short list. Distance, reviews, hours and whether your profile looks alive decide who gets tapped. There is no research phase and often no second choice: the first plumber who answers wins.
The urgent-but-not-flooding job
“Water heater replacement” · “tankless installation” · “drain cleaning near me”
The customer will call two or three companies today or tomorrow. Here your website matters: a page that explains the job, roughly what’s involved and why you, is the difference between a call and a bounce.
The planned project
“Repiping” · “sewer line replacement” · “gas line installation”
Bigger tickets, longer decisions, more reading. These deserve their own pages, and they’re where most plumbing sites have nothing at all.
Where plumbing companies lose calls
- Hours that say closed when you actually answer. If you take after-hours calls, your profile has to say so, with the right hours set and 24-hour availability shown correctly. Otherwise Google quietly hands the 1am search to someone else.
- No separate page for water heaters. One of the most-searched, best-paying jobs in the trade, and on most plumbing sites it’s a bullet point.
- Drain and sewer work buried together. “Drain cleaning,” “hydro jetting,” “sewer camera inspection” and “sewer line repair” are different searches at very different price points.
- A thin review profile, or replies that stopped a year ago. Reviews feed both the map results and the customer’s decision.
- A phone number that changes across your site, your profile and old directory listings, so tracking is impossible and Google gets mixed signals.
- Nothing that shows you’re licensed, insured and local, which is exactly what a homeowner checks before letting you in.
What I do for plumbing companies
Every plan includes the full Local SEO + AI Search build. See exactly what’s in each plan. Here’s what changes because you’re a plumber.
The profile treated as an emergency intake channel
Correct primary category, every service listed by name, accurate hours including after-hours and holidays, and photos added every month. Profile posts go out on a regular schedule so your listing looks like a business that’s answering the phone today.
A page for each job that pays
Water heaters, tankless, drain cleaning, sewer line, repiping, gas lines, fixture installation, emergency service: one clear page each, written for the searches customers use, and linked to the areas you serve. We build them in the order you tell me they matter.
Reviews made routine
Advanced and Premium plans include a review-request system so asking happens after every job instead of whenever someone remembers. I reply to new reviews in a tone we agree on up front. No fake reviews, ever: they violate Google’s policies and can get a profile suspended.
Trust signals a homeowner checks
License number, insurance, service area, response times and real photos of your team and trucks, placed where they’re actually read. This is also what makes your business easy for AI tools to describe accurately when someone asks them for a plumber they can trust.
Freeze events and other spikes
Cold snaps, holiday weekends and heavy rain all produce predictable surges. We prepare the content and profile activity for them in advance, rather than writing a burst-pipe page while the phones are already ringing.
What we measure
- Calls, website clicks and direction requests from your Google Business Profile
- Map rankings across your service area, checked on a grid rather than at one point
- Rankings split by job type: emergency, water heater, drain and sewer, planned projects
- Form submissions and calls from the website, where tracking is in place
- Review count, rating and reply rate over time
- Whether AI tools mention your business when asked for a plumber in your area
How Google ranks local results
Reviews and consistent business information feed prominence, which is why they’re in the plan every month, not just at the start.

Plumbing SEO FAQ
I’m a service-area business with no storefront. Can I still rank in the map results?
Yes. Most plumbing companies are service-area businesses. You can list the areas you serve and hide your street address, as long as you follow Google’s guidelines (Google Business Profile Help).
Emergency calls are most of my revenue. What actually moves those?
Your profile, mostly: category, services, accurate after-hours availability, review volume and recency, and how close you are to the searcher. Website work supports it, but for a 2am search the profile is doing the talking. The website earns its keep on water heaters, drains and planned work.
How many reviews do I need?
There’s no number that unlocks anything. What matters is that reviews keep arriving, that they mention the services and areas you want to be known for, and that you reply. A steady trickle beats 40 reviews from three years ago.
Can you get me ranked number one for “plumber near me”?
No one can promise that, and “near me” results change with the searcher’s location anyway: two customers on opposite sides of town see different lists. What I can do is make you the strongest candidate across your service area and show you, on a map grid, where you currently appear and where you don’t.
Do you handle call tracking?
I’ll advise on setting it up and make sure it’s done in a way that doesn’t break your business information consistency. Getting that wrong is a common cause of ranking problems, because a tracking number that replaces your real number on directories sends Google conflicting information.
What if I also do HVAC?
Common, and fine. Each trade gets its own pages, its own profile services and, where appropriate, its own categories, so neither side gets buried. See the HVAC page.
