HVAC SEO for Heating and Cooling Companies
HVAC demand arrives in waves. The first hot week fills the phones with no-cool calls; the first cold snap does the same for heating. Between those spikes, the searches change to tune-ups, indoor air quality and system replacement. I build your local SEO around that pattern, so you’re visible when each type of customer starts looking.

How HVAC customers actually search
Three different customers type three very different things, and they need different pages on your site. Most HVAC websites are built for the third and lose the first two.
The emergency
“AC not cooling” · “no heat” · “emergency ac repair”
Phone-in-hand, map-first searches. Google shows a short list and the customer calls one of them within minutes. Your Google Business Profile does almost all the work: category, hours, reviews, phone number and whether you look open right now.
The maintenance customer
“AC tune up” · “furnace maintenance near me” · “hvac maintenance plan”
Lower urgency, higher lifetime value, and far cheaper to win. These searches climb in spring and fall, a few weeks before the emergency season starts.
The replacement buyer
“New AC unit cost” · “heat pump vs furnace” · “brand + dealer near me”
Takes days or weeks, reads several pages, collects two or three quotes. They rarely convert on the first visit, which is why your site needs pages about systems, brands, financing and rebates, not just a contact form.
Where HVAC companies lose calls
- One “services” page covering heating, cooling and installation. Google has nothing specific to rank, so you compete with companies that have a page for each.
- A profile with the wrong primary category, set to something broad when most of your revenue comes from one service.
- A service list that stops at “AC repair.” Heat pumps, ductless mini splits, duct work, thermostats, air quality and maintenance plans are all searched by name, and all can be listed on your profile.
- Service areas that don’t match where the trucks actually go. Either far too wide to be believable, or missing the suburbs that pay best.
- Nothing about the brands you’re certified to install, even though “brand + dealer near me” is one of the highest-intent searches in the trade.
- A quiet profile in the off-season, so you start every busy season from behind.
What I do for HVAC companies
Every plan includes the full Local SEO + AI Search build. See exactly what’s in each plan. Here’s what changes because you’re in HVAC.
Pages that match the seasons
We build and improve service pages in the order your revenue arrives: cooling pages finished before summer, heating pages before the first cold week, maintenance and air quality in the shoulder months. Each page covers one service in one set of areas, with the questions customers ask before they call.
A profile built for emergency searches
Categories and services set for how you actually earn, hours and holiday hours kept accurate, and photos of real installs added every month. Profile posts follow the season: tune-up reminders in spring and fall, no-cool and no-heat messaging during the spikes.
Brand, rebate and financing content
If you’re a certified dealer for a manufacturer, that belongs on your site, and it often earns you a listing on the manufacturer’s own dealer locator, which is a genuinely good local link. Utility and state rebate programs change every year, and a page explaining the current ones attracts exactly the customer who’s about to spend the most.
Answer and AI visibility for HVAC questions
People ask AI tools the same things they used to type into a search box: “why is my AC blowing warm air,” “how much does a heat pump cost,” “who installs mini splits near me.” I structure your pages so they answer those directly, and keep your details consistent everywhere AI tools look, so you’re a candidate when one is asked to recommend a contractor.
A typical HVAC year
| Season | What customers search | What we work on |
|---|---|---|
| Late winter / spring | AC tune up, system replacement quotes | Cooling pages, maintenance plan page, tune-up profile posts, review push before the rush |
| Summer | AC not cooling, emergency ac repair | Emergency-focused profile activity, fast-loading cooling pages, review replies kept current |
| Early fall | Furnace maintenance, heater not working | Heating pages, furnace tune-up posts, air quality content |
| Winter | No heat, emergency heating repair, heat pump installation | Emergency pages and profile activity, rebate and financing content for replacement buyers |
What we measure
- Calls, website clicks and direction requests from your Google Business Profile
- Map rankings across your service area, checked on a grid rather than at one point
- Rankings for repair, install and maintenance terms separately, because they behave differently
- Form submissions and calls from the website, where tracking is in place
- Whether AI tools mention your business when asked about HVAC work in your area
How Google ranks local results
Google names three factors. Distance isn’t something anyone can change, which is why the work concentrates on the other two.

HVAC SEO FAQ
How long does HVAC SEO take to work?
Profile and listing fixes can change how you appear fairly quickly. Ranking improvements usually build over several months. The bigger factor in HVAC is timing: work started in April is in far better shape for July than work started in June. That’s the honest version, and it’s why plans have a three-month minimum.
I get plenty of calls in summer. Why would I pay for SEO in winter?
Because the spikes are won in the quiet months. Reviews, new pages, citations and profile activity take weeks to have an effect, and every competitor is chasing the same emergency searches once the heat arrives. Off-season work is also where maintenance plans and replacement quotes come from, which is steadier revenue than emergency calls.
Should I run Google Ads too?
They solve different problems. Ads buy visibility immediately and stop when the budget does; SEO builds visibility that keeps working. Many HVAC companies run ads during peak weeks and lean on SEO the rest of the year. I don’t manage ad accounts, but I’ll tell you plainly where your SEO isn’t ready to carry a season on its own.
We serve 20 towns. Do we need a page for every one?
Not at the start. Pages for towns you barely serve read as filler to both customers and Google. I’d rather build strong pages for your core service areas and the services that actually pay, then expand once those are ranking and there’s real work in the next town.
Can you help if my website is old or slow?
Yes. Technical and on-page fixes are part of every plan. If your site is beyond fixing, I’ll say so rather than charging you monthly to improve something that can’t be improved.
Do you work with HVAC companies that also do plumbing or electrical?
Yes. Multi-trade companies need each trade treated as its own set of pages, services and profile categories, so neither one gets buried. That’s a normal part of the plan. See the plumbing page.
